This aircraft was nicknamed “Lady Luck” by the crew of R.H. Bonney. On their second mission (20 July 44) they were flying on the left wing of the lead ship. When on the bomb run they flew into a flak box and SC-J was flung over on her back, two of her engines being knocked out. The two pilots fought to right her as she fell about 20,000 feet and finally succeeded. They somehow managed to get back to Deenethorpe and thereafter named their ship “LADY LUCK”.
