Seeking to rescue a Marine who was drowning in the surf at Iwo Jima, these six soldiers narrowly missed meeting their own deaths when their amphibian truck was swamped by heavy seas, 11 March 1945.

New Guinea - Ankle deep in the mud of Sago swamp, Pvt Edward Kirby of Louisville, Ky. Hacks away jungle as he hunts any cache Japanese in New Guinea. The sharp machete is not only a useful weapon, it chops a path to their possible hiding place. Everyday, a Platoon of Yank fighters patrols the conquered area of New Guinea on a constant lookout for straying enemy.
